Win key + T:

sets focus on the task bar icons, you can now press left and right keys to navigate and click enter to open the selected program. For example following is a screenshot with the Windows media player in focus, to open it, just press enter.

Win key + Alt key + # (#=number):

access the jump list of task bar icon number (#).

>>jump list is the menu which opens when you right-click on an icon on the task bar.

## another way to access the jump list is by clicking and slightly moving the mouse in the  upwards direction on that icon.

Display the old context menu on task bars:

you can display the old context menu on the task bar icons by pressing Shift key while right clicking  on them.

Run as administrator shortcut:

usually you have to right-click and select run as administrator to do so, you can easily do that by pressing Ctrl and Shift key while double clicking the program to run it as administrator.

Open extended context menu:

by pressing the shift key while right clicking on any file and folder, you will be able to open the extended context menu which provides some useful features which are not there on the normal context menu, like:

more options in the Send to sub menu, open command window here option when clicking on a folder, open in a new process etc.

Search from the Start menu:

you can add a search internet option in the start menu itself  (it will search using your default browser):

how to do this?

  • press Win + R (to open the Run command window)
  • type GPEDIT.MSC and press enter to open the Group Policy Editor.
  • In the left pane, go to User configuration > Administrative Templates > Start menu and Taskbar
  • In the right pane, right-click on “Add search internet link to Start Menu” and click on Edit, then click on Enabled. and then Apply > Ok.

there are many other useful functions in here you can try to explore them (**at your own risk)

Enjoy!! 😀
